ITV Racing tips: Newsboy's big fancy for the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday

CYRNAME is expected to show his good side to gain a repeat victory in the Grade 2 bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (3.05) at Wetherby.

The Paul Nicholls-trained nine-year-old has enjoyed some heady career highs and some chastening lows - vividly illustrated by his fortunes last season.

Twelve months ago, Cyrname came to West Yorkshire and cruised to a two-length victory over Vinndication.

But Harry Cobden’s mount ran abjectly when pulled up behind stablemate Frodon in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, and he also blew out in the Ascot Chase in February, won by Dashel Drasher.

Connections told the Ascot stewards that Cyrname had “a respiratory issue” - hence a breathing operation in the meantime.

If the surgeon’s knife has done its work then Cyrname, the best horse in the race by some way on official figures, should start his campaign with a roar rather than a whimper.

JOHNBB is worth bbacking to make a winning return in the Bateaux London Gold Cup Handicap Chase (3.20) at Ascot this afternoon.

Having won two of his first five starts over fences, the Tom Lacey seven-year-old stepped up to three miles for a big-money handicap chase on the Grand National undercard at Aintree last April.

Johnbb, who was having his first start since Boxing Day, ran a fine race to finish second to Happygolucky, and there is further progress to come at this trip.

Untapped potential is also the key to commentator’s nightmare SULLY D’OC AA in the Listed Byrne Group Handicap Chase (2.45).

Richie McLernon’s mount finished a one-length second to today's rival Editeur Du Gite at Aintree in April and reopposes on 3lb worse terms thanks to a two-and-a-quarter-length score at the Punchestown Festival three weeks later.

But it will be a surprise Anthony Honeyball can’t tease another personal best from the seven-year-old, having his 10th attempt over fences, and Sully D’OC AA is fancied to gain his revenge.

The Listed Bateaux London Handicap Hurdle (2.10) looks wide open, but expect a good run from AJERO.

The Kim Bailey trainee was another in action at Aintree in the spring, returning a well-beaten seventh behind Belfast Banter in the Grade 1 Top Novices’ Hurdle.

Prior to stepping up in class, Ajero had completed a four-timer with a handicap hurdle success at Huntingdon in March, and a British Horseracing Authority rating of 137 may not prove beyond him.

It’s interesting that Emma Lavelle has chosen to give SAM BARTON his introduction to fences in the opening Ascot Underwriting Novices’ Handicap Chase (1.35).

Black Sam Bellamy’s son, who carries the colours of the late Trevor Hemmings, has always looked a chaser in embryo and this looks a good opportunity to get his career over the larger obstacles off to the perfect start.

Down Royal’s Grade 1 Ladbrokes Champion Chase (2.50) has been billed as a two-horse clash between Minella Indo and Frodon - but GALVIN is capable of gate-crashing the party.

The seven-year-old capped a perfect campaign with victory in the Cheltenham Festival ’s National Hunt Chase last March, and a comeback win at Punchestown 17 days ago will put a fitness edge on the Gordon Elliott trainee.

On Wetherby's Charlie Hall Chase undercard, the Lavelle-saddled PAISLEY PARK looks a worthy favourite to stamp his class against seven opponents for the Grade 2 bet365 Hurdle (2.30).

Paul Nicholls’ Miranda heads the betting for the Listed bet365 Mares’ Hurdle (1.55) but the 12-time champion trainer may see former protégé Dan Skelton take the prize with MOLLY OLLYS WISHES.

Top weight TANARPINO is preferred in the opening bet365 Handicap Chase (1.20), while MACKENBERG can extend trainer Donald McCain’s hot streak by defying a 194-day absence in the bet365 Handicap Hurdle (3.40).
