ITV Grace: John Simm's wife you may recognise from EastEnders

ITV crime drama Grace returned to our screens last week, with Brighton's best fictional detective getting to the bottom of more suspicious deaths.

John Simm plays Detective Superintendent Roy Grace in the gritty series, based on the bestselling novels by Peter James. Episode one saw Grace suspect the death of a former schoolteacher was not the drugs overdose it first appeared.

And there's plenty more like that to come, with another three dramatic instalments on their way, with some of John Simm's best acting work played out on screen. And viewers may be surprised to know, his wife is an actress too.

The actor, 51, is actually married to former EastEnders star Kate Magowan. Kate played beauty salon owner Sadie Young from 2013 to 2014, and the 46-year-old previously starred in hit shows including The Bill and Silent Witness.

Her screen career kicked off in season two of Dream Team, Sky 1's first original drama series. She went on to appear in many films and television roles including the role of Princess Una in the magical film Stardust in 2007, Kidulthood, 4.3.2.1., Screwed, A Lonely Place to Die and It's All Gone Pete Tong.

Kate married John in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, in April 2004. The pair have also appeared together in four films: 24 Hour Party People, Is Harry On The Boat?, the award-winning short film Devilwood and the heist thriller Tuesday, as well as in the BBC Series Exile.

And it seems the couple are still very much in love, with Kate posting a cosy Valentine's Day selfie with her and John. "22 Years My Valentine," the star wrote with a heart emoji.

Grace series 2 continues at 8pm on Sunday on ITV and the ITV Hub
