ITV Good Morning Britain: Vicky McClure explains brilliant reason behind new bench in Nottingham

Nottingham's Vicky McClure has appeared on Good Morning Britain to explain the important and brilliant reason behind a new bench she designed in the city centre.

The Line Of Duty and This Is England star spoke to Susanna Reid and Martin Lewis on ITV about her design of a new 'listening bench' and the importance of having conversations with people to combat loneliness.

Located on Lister Gate in the city centre, the bench is designed to get people starting a conversation with someone they've never met.

Vicky said she she was a self-confessed chatterbox and that she hoped the bench would spark conversation among people following various coronavirus lockdowns.

She said on GMB: "I wish I spoke to more strangers. It's different now, isn't it, but I do love community.

"To be fair I didn't really know my neighbours and lockdown came and we all started to get to know each other.

"Social media is amazing and it does really help people to communicate with other people when they are feeling lonely.

"But there is nothing like spoken word and having a chat, whether it's on the phone or in the street.

"I am a chatterbox and I speak to my friend probably 15 times a day, but it gets you through the day."
