ITV Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid struggles to step in as debate turns into singing chaos

Susanna Reid battled to step in and break up a debate which included singing on today's Good Morning Britain. The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Wednesday (September 28) alongside Ed Balls.

The pair were continuing to check in with the goings on at the Labour Party Conference currently taking place in Liverpool until Thursday. They were joined live from the conference venue by journalists Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire who also debated the current economic fallout from the government’s mini-budget announcement last week.

They soon got on to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) criticism of the government's fiscal plan and they clearly didn't see eye-to-eye and began talking over one another in order to get their points across. And at one point the Daily Mirror's associate editor Kevin broke out into a rendition of the Monty Python track Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

"The speculators and casino economy are saying, ‘You bet wrong here, you’ve got it absolutely wrong,'" Kevin said when discussing the IMF's reaction to the tax cuts. "Your living standards are suffering and at the same time they’re giving a shedload of money to the richest in the country. It’s a moment in British politics," he added.

"Truss and the Tories are down on the floor. They’ve got it absolutely wrong and most Tory MPs know that." But Andrew replied: "The problem here though is that the polls show people still don’t know what Labour stands for..."

However, as he spoke, Kevin started to sing his tune of choice leading to Andrew interjecting: "Hang on, Kevin." As he continued to try and speak, Kevin eventually stopped singing to say: "Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck could come up with a better alternative to your government. You’ve created this mess."

The pair then continued to talk over each other with no one able to get a word in edgeways - even the GMB hosts. Susanna, 51, was heard repeatedly saying Kevin's name as she tried to bring their war of words, and the segment, to a close but it was left to Ed who then let out: "Order, order, order."

As the guests continued bickering, the programme cut the video link and the programme returned to the studio, with Susanna simply saying: "Thanks both very much," and moving on with the show.
