ITV Good Morning Britain's Rob Rinder applauds Lorraine's scathing Matt Hancock swipe

Good Morning Britain's Rob Rinder gave Lorraine Kelly a "standing ovation" after she aimed a brutal comment at Matt Hancock.

The TV judge hosted today's edition of the ITV programme alongside Susanna Reid.

The anchors chatted to Lorraine about what what was coming up in Wednesday's instalment of her self-titled show.

However, Susanna asked Lorraine to repeat comments she made in yesterday's episode in response to Matt Hancock's interview with Steven Bartlett.

The former Health Secretary was forced to resign last year after footage emerged of him in an embrace with aide Gina Coladangelo, which was in breach of lockdown rules.

Mr Hancock appeared on the Diary of a CEO podcast and defended himself by saying he broke the rules because he "fell in love".

Mr Hancock donned a navy polo for the interview - which prompted Lorraine to deliver a brutal swipe.

She said: "I don’t know what he’s come as. He looks like a Bond villain or a pound shop Milk Tray Man, maybe.

"So he fell in love, but lots of people who were in love with each other weren't able to see each other during that time, weren't they?"

Rob Rinder was in hysterics when she repeated the jibe on Good Morning Britain.

He said: "Standing ovation for you there Lorraine."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub
