ITV Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley reveals why he turned down Strictly Come Dancing

Richard Madeley has revealed he turned down the chance to be on Strictly Come Dancing because he would "look so stupid" dong the jive.

The TV star told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "I was talking to a booker from Strictly Come Dancing the other day because, for their folly, sometimes they ask me to go on it and I always say no.

"She was saying that more women celebrities say yes than men, it's much harder to get male celebrities to go on and do it.

"I wouldn't do it because of the jive. I cannot conceivably come on in spandex and lurex and do the flick kicks, I would look so stupid."

Rosie Ramsey reacts to Chris going on Strictly with hilarious 'Strictly curse' post

Geordie comedian Chris Ramsey is part of the confirmed Strictly line-up.

The South Shields stand-up revealed he'd only told three friends he'd signed up for the show on a stag do,  but "they forgot".

Chris, 28, said: "I’m both excited and absolutely terrified to be doing the show. You will not find me on the dance floor at parties, you will find me at the buffet table. All night.

"At my wedding I danced with my wife; that one song took about 6 months practice, and I definitely stood on her feet a couple of times.

“So I’m looking forward to the possibility of making a fool of myself in front of millions of people…there better be a buffet after the live shows.”

Strictly kicks off with the red carpet launch on August 26.

While a date is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to get under way in September.
