ITV Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway says husband Derek Draper has had a 'tough week'

Kate Garraway told Good Morning Britain fans it had been a 'tough week' with husband Derek Draper, as he battles the effects of coronavirus.

Derek has lost eight stone since being rushed to hospital with Covid-19 on March 29.

He no longer has the condition, but the disease has had a devastating effect on his body and doctors do not know when - or if - he will be able to fully recover.

The former Labour lobbyist - who medics told Kate was the sickest patient they had ever treated and had managed to survive this long - has been through organ shutdown, lung and kidney failure and now struggles to digest food since Covid-19 rampaged through his body.

On Good Morning Britain today, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown sent his best wishes to Kate and her husband.

Mr Brown said: "Kate, my best wishes to you and to Derek as always. I know how brave you're being."

Kate said: "Thank you very much Gordon and thank you for your support as well."

Turning to Ben, Kate said: "It's been a tough week with Derek actually. Yeah it has been a tough week, but it's Friday."

Ben said: "You're still here and still smiling."
