ITV Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins left in tears by Piers Morgan advert

Newsreader and presenter Charlotte Hawkins was left in tears on Good Morning Britain today.

The 44-year-old was seen wiping her eyes after watching GMB's mini Christmas advert depicting a childhood friendship between presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

In an attempt to rival John Lewis by making the nation weep, it seems that the breakfast team succeeded as Charlotte shed tears, causing Piers to poke fun at her.

Piers said: "Are you crying?"

As she tried to laugh it off, Charlotte said: "Don't make a fuss."

Charlotte was moved to tears (ITV)

Piers said: "You watched that load of cheese and your are crying?"

Charlotte said: "I'm sorry, it's just their friendship. Just sometimes these things get me."

She also confirmed that she was not moved to tears by the John Lewis advert, featuring Excitable Edgar , but the story of a mini Susanna and Piers made her emotional.

And it seems that some viewers were also reaching for the tissues, one, @Sallie02Sallie said: "yes I did cry over the advert with the 2 kids acting as Piers and Susanna when they were kids."

Another, @SusiJeniHayward said: "I thought it was rather moving actually!"

A third, @ScottGreengrass said: " Yes, this really did make me cry. Mini Piers & Susanna look great & we should take care of everyone at Christmas."

*Good Morning Britain is on ITV1 each morning from 6am
