ITV Good Morning Britain accused of 'hypocrisy' as presenters head outside

Good Morning Britain fans accused the programme of "hypocrisy" today after several correspondents presented outside.

On today's show Piers Morgan and Grant Shapps had a tense chat about "key workers" and why non-essential workers were still going to work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Piers argued that people should not be going out to work if they were not essential, but said that he and Susanna had been designated as key workers, as they were journalists.

He said that they maintain a two metre distance in the studio and had minimal crew to present the show.

But as Laura Tobin presented the weather from Henley and Ranvir Singh was seen outside Parliament viewers took to social media accusing the programme of hypocrisy.

@be_bites said: "You telling people to work from home and then you send a camera crew to your weather girls house."

@daisy_furball1 said: "What the f*** is a presenter doing stood outside at a beauty spot reading the weather? @GMB hypocrisy."

@imultitudes said: "Is it really essential to have a reporter outside the Met Police station?"

@wildingandrew said: "Either side of admonishing people for moving around we see Laura at Henley on Thames then Ranvir outside Westminster. All defended by Piers as ‘close to home’. What all of the crew????"

Spotting viewers' tweets, Piers directly responded to the criticism live on GMB.

He said: "All the tweets saying why have you got reporters out there, well they are reporting from where the action is happening.

"Why is Laura at Henley, well it's near her home, it saves her coming into the studio and making a journey.

"Weather is important to people, they need to know what to expect to take their daily exercise.

"We have thought about this."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV tomorrow
