ITV give fans first look at Kate Beckinsale in new Spring drama The Widow

ITV have released a first look at Kate Beckinsale in upcoming drama The Widow, coming to the small screen this spring.

Beckinsale plays devoted spouse Georgia Wells, who had her life turned upside down three years before the show's action begins when her husband of 10 years, Will, was reported dead following a plane crash in the Congolese jungle.

Several years on, Georgia is rocked by a sudden discovery which sees her travel to Kinshasa, the last place Will was seen alive, on a quest to uncover the truth about what really happened to her husband.

But, unbeknownst to Georgia, a dangerous path lies ahead for her on the search while close ally Martin Benson, played by Charles Dance, is looking for answers elsewhere.

The first-look pictures show Beckinsale in character as she desperately tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together, alongside her companion.

The drama, which will air later this year on ITV, has been penned by BAFTA-nominated writers Harry and Jack Williams. The brothers have previously penned The Missing and Liar.

Cast for the eight-part drama also includes Alex Kingston, Louise Brealey and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

At the time of the show’s announcement, Two Brothers, who are producing for the network, said: “Kate Beckinsale is a brilliantly talented actress and we’re thrilled she’s joining us on this journey – we couldn’t imagine anyone more perfect for the role.

“The Widow is our most ambitious and cinematic piece to date and we can’t wait to bring the dark heart of the Congolese jungle to the screen.”

The Widow will air on ITV in Spring.
