ITV Family Fortunes viewers squirm over 'badly timed' This Morning question

Those tuning into Family Fortunes on Sunday, May 21 were left cringing after a "badly timed" question left many feeling awkward. The show, which sees families go head-to-head in the hope of walking away with a cash prize jackpot, is presented by Gino D'Acampo.

In the latest instalment, the host asked the contestants taking part to name someone who appears on the ITV daytime show, This Morning. Given that Phillip Schofield has just quit the programme with immediate effect, many watching were left squirming.

Gino asked: "Name someone who appears on the TV show 'This Morning'." As expected, the families fired out the names of long-standing presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, as well as show regulars including Gino himself who often makes appearances for the cooking segment.

Holly was the top scorer with 31 points, while Phil came in second with 25. Many ITV viewers took to Twitter to point out the cringe-worthy moment.

One wrote: "Oooops. This is a badly timed question! Will they accept Phillip Schofield as an answer?" While another added: "Well this is an awkwardly timed question: Name someone who appears on This Morning."

"The timing of this is stunning," commented a third, while a fourth stated: "Absolutely cackling at the 'who appears on This Morning' question on Family Fortunes."

"Oh wow.," added fifth. "This question on This Morning has dated badly. They had no idea when they recorded this."

As another wrote: "Answers right at the time of filming Name someone who appears on #ThisMorning. Awkward."

It comes after Phillip quit This Morning with a lengthy statement on Saturday, May 20 following rumours of a feud with his co-star of 14 years Holly Willoughby. While Phil's last programme aired on Thursday, May 18, ITV bosses have confirmed that Holly will remain on This Morning and will co-present with members of the This Morning family.

Phil's statement read: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
