ITV explain why Emmerdale characters are still going to the Woolpack despite coronavirus closures

An unusual announcement followed Friday night's episode of Emmerdale.

As the credits rolled on the ITV soap, the continuity announcer explained why despite Boris Johnson having ordered pubs, cafes and bars across the country to close just hours earlier to help tackle coronavirus, Emmerdale characters would still be seen supping in the Woolpack in the coming weeks.

The announcement explained:"The case of Emmerdale is filmed many weeks in advance and a lot has changed in that time - episodes will continue to feature scenes set in the Woolpack and other communal areas.

"Please remember to follow all the most recent government guidelines and health advice."

Twitter user @Missives0fASub captured the announcement on video and shared it on Twitter.

He said "Blimey! I can't work out if this is ridiculous or really good and responsible of them."

Many replies said it was a responsible move by ITV.

So there you have it - coronavirus hasn't quite caught up with the Emmerdale timeline - so the village isn't isolating just yet.

Yesterday Prime Minister Boris Johnson told pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants, among other venues, to close strengthening of measures to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

Johnson said the Government would be continually assessing the situation around pubs and cafes and other requested closures "to see if we can relax any of these measures".
