ITV Emmerdale viewers confused by bizarre appearance of 90s technology

Emmerdale fans were left puzzled tonight when Lydia Hart asked Sam Dingle if she could borrow his Discman.

Lydia, played by Karen Blick, said she was going for a run and wanted the 90s must-have so she could listen to music.

She even had to look for spare batteries for the portable CD player, leaving viewers at home confused buy the use of the retro tech.

Taking to Twitter , @gffcontwitch said: "Discman? It's 2019 not 1991."

Another, @dirrtydazza said: "Lydia using a Discman to go running with? 2 things ... 1 from what I remember a CD jumps in a Discman when running and 2 it’s not 1995."

Unfortunately, for Sam, played by James Hooton, who "cherished" the archaic electrical device, Lydia fell into a a large muddy puddle while running, crushing the Discman and ruining her own Olivia Newton-John CD.

One viewer, @MoragKim said: "Who cherishes a Discman in 2019? They were barely cherished in 1999."

The Discman first hit the market in 1984 and by the 90s it was on everyone's Christmas list. In 2000 it changed its name to CD Walkman alongside the original Walkman (for cassette tapes).

*Emmerdale is on ITV1 weekdays from 7pm
