ITV Emmerdale studios threatened by 45-minute blaze as travellers set caravan on fire

A fire broke out at a traveller site in Kirkstall - right next to ITV studios.

More than 20 caravans parked just off Kirkstall Road over the weekend, on a small patch of green space next to both the famous ITV studios where Emmerdale are filmed, and Radio Aire.

Travellers left the site on Sunday, August 16, but the fire service had to be called when one of the caravans was left ablaze.

The fire took approximately 45 minutes to put out by fire crews, with police also in attendance. Nobody was injured.

Rubbish was also left on the site, which was cleaned up by council workers a day later, on Monday, August 17.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue told LeedsLive: "Our control room received a call at 13.26 on Sunday, 16 August, to a report that a caravan was on fire on a piece of land off Kirkstall Road.

"A fire engine from Leeds Fire Station attended and put out the fire.

"No-one was injured and the fire did not spread.

"The police also attended.

Crews left at 14.11."
