ITV Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye quits soap after seven years on screen

Emmerdale actress Gaynor Faye is leaving the soap, after seven years on screen.

Gaynor, who plays Megan Macey, has not yet revealed how she will be leaving the village.

Speaking to OK!, Gaynor said she was leaving the soap because she felt she was stagnating as an actress.

She said: "It's a risk. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone."

Megan is just about to become embroiled in a custody battle with ex-husband Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) after she is involved in a car accident with Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) - reports Mirror Online.

The actress previously revealed that she didn't come out entirely unscathed after her car crash stunt.

While driving, Megan sends a text that sees her crash into the back of Jamie Tate's car. In turn, both he and Eric Pollard (who he knocks into) are rushed to hospital.

Asked what the crash was like to film, Gaynor insisted: "It was fine for me! Ask the stunt lady and she'll give you another answer, but it was fine for me! It was great. I just had to sit in front of a green screen and go through the motions of the crash.

"It still gave myself a bit of whiplash, though! I always just go for it because there's nothing worse than a bad stunt or somebody looking like they haven't actually hit something.

"So my hair plays a good part in it. As you know, my hair plays a good part as Megan. Basically I didn't do much of the stunt. I would have loved to because I love stuff like that, but I think they wanted me to do some more scenes afterwards so they couldn't risk it!"

Opening up about the consequences for Megan, Gaynor teased that her character could face jail.

She said: "I don't think it'd be a great place for her, I think she'd definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison," she said.

"But that could be a good thing – it'd be great to play. We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show."
