ITV Emmerdale's on-screen brothers Kris Mochrie and Max Parker reveal interruption during romantic proposal

Former Emmerdale stars Kris Mochrie and Max Parker have shared the moment their romantic engagement was almost thrown off course.

The couple will be best recognised by fans for playing brothers Luke and Lee Posner in the Dales.

Kris and Max, who met on the set of the ITV soap, revealed their happy news last weekend after first going public with their romance in July 2020.

Max shared the major life announcement on Instagram alongside a selection of photographs from the special moment he got down on one knee.

The first snap showed the newly-engaged couple sharing a kiss, with Kris holding a bottle of champagne, and in another, Kris and Max could be seen looking out at the ocean together as Max cuddled his new fiancé.

There was also footage of the moment Max proposed on the beach in South Africa.

He shared alongside the post: "He deserves the world, but the best I could do was promise him my heart. HE SAID YES!

"Happiest moment of my life. @krismoc my Fiancé."

The pair, who live in a lavish Manchester apartment, were quickly flooded with congratulatory messages from their Emmerdale co-stars and fans.

Now Kris, 37, has revealed a little more about the engagement.

Chatting to Phil Trow on BBC Radio Manchester on Thursday, alongside former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn,

"It was really funny because the video he put up online, he had to cut out," Kris laughed before explaining how the proposal was almost derailed.

"A guy came and started begging when we were halfway through the proposal.

"I said 'I’ve only got English money', so I gave him £10 which I think was like 200 rand in South African money."

But the interruption didn't stop Max and the proposal came as a complete surprise to Kris.

"I did not expect it in a million years," he added.

"The way he planned it as well…he chose a spot and hid a drone in the bushes…so just the thought that went into it was amazing."

The engagement ring itself is also very special.

Posting his own announcement on Instgaram last week, Kris said: "The beautiful soul that is my best friend asked me to marry him yesterday. I can’t begin to describe how happy I am.

"I had no idea at all! But it was just perfect… I mean this film says it all.

"Max had asked my Mum for any jewellery that my Gran had. Mum still had my Grans locket and he has had it made in to the middle of the engagement ring on the inside. So so special."
