ITV Emmerdale flooded with Ofcom complaints over disturbing Meena's exit plot

Emmerdale has been hit with over 150 Ofcom complaints following disturbing scenes broadcast as part of Meena Jutla's exit storyline.

The evil nurse's reign of terror appears to be coming to an end as her web of lies are starting to catch up with her in the long-running soap.

Manpreet Sharma and Vinny Dingle now know the full extent of her murderous ways - and Liam Cavanagh is also starting to get suspicious of her behaviour.

However, the character played by Paige Sandhu continues her attempts to evade justice after she killed her friend Nadine, Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker.

Meena has taken her sister hostage in a bid to silence Manpreet - and the sinister scenes as part of this storyline prompted fans to send complaints into the broadcasting watchdog.

Ofcom received 65 complaints for the episode that aired on January 4 in which Meena obtained diazepam from Dr Cavanagh and warned Manpreet she was going to kill her over the course of seven days.

The broadcasting watchdog received an additional 91 complaints for the episode that aired the following day.

Rishi started to get suspicious of his ex-wife's whereabouts in this edition - and contacted the police to investigate Manpreet's disappearance

The villainous nurse failed to convince Rishi that Manpreet had taken a trip to Ibiza so forcefully administered her sister with the sedative and transported her body into the woods.

The episode ended on an ominous note as Meena was seen dragging the bag into a hole in the woods.

However, Manpreet was found to be alive in the next episode as Meena was keeping her hostage in the barn.

ITV has declined to comment.
