ITV Emmerdale fans say Meena actress was 'robbed' of Soap Award's best storyline

Emmerdale fans were outraged tonight as the Meena Jutla storyline failed to win best storyline at the British Soap Awards.

The events ceremony returned after a two year break due to the coronavirus pandemic and it kicked off with the best storyline of the year. There were five contenders for the award including Emmerdale's serial killer, Coronation Street's hate crime and Hollyoaks' historic rape storyline.

EastEnders' bi-polar storyline and Doctors' encounter were also contenders. But, it was Hollyoaks who walked away with the trophy.

The Channel 4 s oap featured a storyline where Misbah Maalik opened up to her family about being sexually assaulted in powerful scenes. She unearthed old memories around the night of her son Shaq's conception as the show explored the vital importance of consent.

However, devoted fans of the ITV soap Emmerdale felt like the Meena Jutla actress, Paige Sandhu, was more deserving of the award. Hannah said: "Actually can’t believe Meena didn’t win best storyline. What a joke #SoapAwards."

Roz said: "Meena was robbed #SoapAwards." Meanwhile, Megan said: "Meena’s storyline deserved to win #SoapAwards #SoapAwards2022".

The ruthless villain was ultimately sentenced to a minimum of 75 years in prison after being captured and brought to justice for her horrific crimes. She took pleasure in taking the lives of village locals Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger), Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) and Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon).
