ITV Emmerdale fans beg show to bring back 'the best Dingle' character

ITV Emmerdale fans have begged show producers to bring back the "best Dingle".

The popular soap, which suspended filming in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, has taken to sharing photos from previous episodes on its official Instagram page.

But sharing a photo from June 3 2008 which included Eli Dingle has lead fans to beg the show to bring him back.

Eli Dingle, played by actor Joseph Gilgun, made his first appearance on the long-running soap in 2006 and left in 2010.

But it seems viewers miss the character, describing him as "brilliant".

On Instagram, the photo depicts Eli being confronted by Zak Dingle.

The image, which has been liked more than 4,000 times, was shared alongside the caption: "ON THIS DAY IN #Emmerdale
"3rd June 2008 (ep 5002 and 5003) Val is kidnapped on her wedding day by the Dingles, but the wedding eventually occurs".

Fan Janice said: "Bring back Eli !!"

Another fan said: "Bring him back brilliant character".

Jo commented: "Please Eli come back [you're] missed".

Victor said: "Aagh I loved Ely x".

Another fan said: "Eli was by far the best dingle!"

Megan said: "Bring back Eli!! One of the best characters on the show".

And another added: "Bring back Eli dingle".

It is not known if Eli's character will make a return to the famous village.

He was last seen leaving the village in 2010, where he took one last tearful look back before turning and walking away.

Actor Joseph Gilgun has continued working since his stint in the Dales and has grown popular playing Vinnie in the hit TV series Brassic.

Emmerdale has now resumed filming after an eight week suspension in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Emmerdale production team have commenced a phased return to filming by recording six new episodes featuring characters during the lockdown.

Filming began on May 20 at Emmerdale’s studios in Leeds and involved a pared back crew to ensure health and safety protocols and social distancing measures are strictly adhered to by the team on set.
