ITV drops drama The Unforgotten for Harry and Meghan's Oprah chat in last-minute scramble

ITV bosses were forced to pull the plug on the third episode of drama The Unforgotten which was supposed to air on Monday night.

After bagging the rights to broadcast Oprah Winfrey's interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, bosses have prioritised the hotly-anticipated chat in their schedule.

The royals will lift the lid on their life in a revealing chat with the media mogul, which is going to air in the US on Sunday night.

Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A Primetime Special will screen on the channel at 9pm on Monday March 8 - less than 24 hours after it debuts in America.

Reports suggest it cost ITV around £1 million to land the chat, seeing off competition from Sky.

The network has since announced that the third episode of The Unforgotten will now air on Tuesday night at 9pm on ITV instead.

The remaining episodes 4 - 6 will then be back to Monday nights at 9pm from March 15.

According to experts, ITV look set to rake in advertising revenues of around £100,000 for every 30-second slot during Harry and Meghan's chat.

The BBC is believed to have previously declined to air the TV special, which has been extended from 90 minutes to two hours.

A trailer for the interview was released last night, with Oprah teasing some "shocking" revelations.

In the clip, Oprah, 67, is seen telling pregnant Meghan, 39: "You've said some pretty shocking things here."

She later asks: "Were you silent or were you silenced?"

Harry is also seen talking about the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and telling Oprah he feared "history repeating itself".

He says: "I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago.

"Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other."

Monday, 8 March at 9pm on ITV .
