GMB viewers have also said they have take their complaints further and wrote to Ofcom about Piers and the programme.

Things escalated further on Tuesday when the controversial TV host stormed off set after weatherman Alex Beresford said Piers' behaviour towards the Duchess of Sussex was 'absolutely diabolical'.

ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall said on a media call after the group’s annual results were published on Tuesday morning that she has not spoken to Piers or seen the programme yet, given that she has been presenting the figures.

She insisted it is a "balanced show" and added: "ITV has many voices and we try and represent many voices every day. It's not about one opinion."

On Morgan's earlier comments saying he did not believe the Duchess of Sussex, she said: "I completely believe what she (Meghan) said. It's important everyone does."
