ITV Corrie fans brand episode 'unbearable to watch' after Yasmeen's shocking decision

Coronation Street fans were outraged after a shocking decision made by Yasmeen Nazir.

In the latest twist in the soap's long-running domestic abuse storyline featuring Geoff and wife Yasmeen, the desperate Nan agrees to cut all ties with her beloved granddaughter, Alya.

Alya is certain Geoff has been controlling and abusing her Gran and has subsequently clashed with Geoff on numerous occasions.

In tonight's episodes, Alya was told of Yasmeen and Geoff's plans to relocate to Cyprus - much to the restaurant manager's dismay.

Alya argued with her grandmother as Geoff walked in and saw her frantically trying to pack a bag to get Yasmeen away from him.

Later scenes saw Geoff's manipulation of his chef wife come to a head, as she desperately promised to cut Alya out of her life in a bid to keep him.

Viewers were not impressed with the latest twist in the coercive control storyline.

On Twitter, journalist India Willoughby tweeted: "Geoff storyline utterly ridiculous now. No way would Yasmeen have offered to cut all ties with her granddaughter".

Claw said: "Oh ffs Yasmeen. [eyeroll emoji] This is unbearable to watch."

Another viewer commented: "Oh Yasmeen, you silly billy!"

And another said: "What?! Yasmeen disowns Alya!! [multiple shocked emojis] Oh Yasmeen [crying emojis]"

Shane tweeted: "The writers of Coronation Street could have still raised awareness of domestic abuse without some of the extreme scenes they've written.

"I really don't know how they had the imagination to write some of those scenes. Quite disturbing."

The coercive control storyline has seen hundreds of viewers make complaints to Ofcom.

The episode ended with Alya seeking police advice under Clare's Law - a national scheme which allows police to reveal partners' abusive pasts.

*Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV
