ITV Coronation Street viewers 'unmask' Maria's troll as Max Turner is arrested

Coronation Street viewers are convinced they have worked out the real identity of Maria Windass' troll.

The character, played by Samia Longchambon, has embarked on a political career and put green issues at the top of her agenda. The environmentally friendly action has led to unintended consequences as the extra workload sparked bin workers to go on strike in the long-running soap.

Maria delivered a passionate speech on recycling to get the workers on side, but this backfired when a troll edited her words to a rap tune in a video posted online. The abuse worsened when the troll made a deep fake video to make it appear as though she had appeared in a pornographic film.

Maria has continued to endure a difficult time on the Cobbles as she has been subjected to death threats online. David Platt suspected his son, Max Turner, was responsible for the abuse and contacted the police - as Mirror Online reports.

Officers arrested Max at the end of last night's episode as they took him in for questioning. However, fans on Twitter are convinced they have worked out a twist and it is actually David's wife, Shona, who is behind the trolling.

Ruby said: "Mad guess. But its gonna be SHONA trolling Maria isn’t it. Not max. Hence another big pregnancy write out for the actress playing her"

AJ commented: "Why do I think its Shona? She seemed to act very guilty a few times and very distracted in the cafe"

Michelle tweeted : "Anyone else think Shona might have been the one trolling Maria"
