ITV Coronation Street viewers 'figure out' Maria's stalker in unexpected twist

Coronation Street fans think they have figured out who Maria Windass' stalker is - and it would be a massive shock to the councillor. The ITV soap character, played by Samia Longchambon, has been the victim of trolling for weeks after trying to make positive changes in Weatherfield by taking a stand by putting green issues at the top of the agenda.

But earlier this month, Maria realised that her decision to change the local recycling collections had unintended consequences. She decided to bring in extra bins and new collections to make sure that recycling and environmental issues are a top priority for the local community.

Her decision-making, however, led to the recycling collectors going on strike because of the extra workload. Maria has since done what she can to put things right but found herself the victim of a video being circulated online with her words chopped up and rearranged to a rap beat after being door stepped.

But this was just the start and she was later horrified to find a deep-fake video had been posted online which show Maria's head placed on a naked woman to make it look like she was in a porn film. She has also been receiving death threats with the police not doing much to help.

She has been living in fear of what can happen next and that only got worse during Wednesday night's trip to Weatherfield (July 13), when she discovered a tracker had been planted in her bag after attending a council function. Prior to that, she had been left unnerved when a man approached her, claiming to work for environmental health, but ended up complimenting her on 'her' video.

Later, she received a notification on her phone, telling her that a third-party device was travelling with her and tracking her location. Rifling through her bag in the street to try and find the tracker, Maria was startled by a figure approaching and took aim with a can of hairspray – only to find she had actually sprayed a concerned George Shuttleworth.

George accompanied her to the café where she eventually found the tracker as Nina Lucas explained that the item was supposed to help people find missing things like keys, but that the tracker is often misused. She destroyed the device and at the police station, the police officer said they couldn't help as that sort of a tracker wasn't illegal.

She tried to put on a brave face for her family, including her son Liam, but viewers saw her phoning his school to tell him he wouldn't be in the following day because of a stomach bug, only for a smiling Liam to walk back through the door with Kelly, Gary and a stack of pizzas.

Fans think Kelly could be involved (ITV)

Corrie fans have been left scratching their heads about who Maria's stalker could be and some have come up with the shocking theory it could be someone close to home. @photographycpb tweeted: "Who else thinks it’s Kelly??!! I think she knows Gary and Maria have something to do with her dad’s death and this is payback!!"

@RyanGSoapKing11 shared: "I reckon it could be Kelly - why was she so desperate to go the event with Maria when she didn't have to? #Corrie." @shonasbeatriz said: "Kelly is deffo stalking maria #corrie." @sosbiggy wrote: "Got a feeling Kelly is staking Maria #Corrie."

@idiscusstv commented: "Imagine if it’s Kelly behind all this because she secretly knows what Gary did to her dad and is angry at Maria for supporting him #corrie." @Wee_Westie29 added; "I’m starting to think Maria’s tormenter is either Gary or Kelly unless Kelly is onto her about something. Because who else could put a tracker on Maria other than him, Kelly and Liam? #Corrie."
