ITV Coronation Street viewers fear for Yasmeen urging her not to let 'Geoff win'

A frail-looking Yasmeen was formally charged with attempted murder of her husband after being incriminated by her own 999 call.

Earlier, she faced questioning from police in Friday's episode of Coronation Street after the bottle attack on Geoff Metcalfe.

Viewers watching hoped she would speak up about the horrendous abuse she had suffered at Geoff's hands.

But instead, while sitting with two police officers and her lawyer, Yasmeen asked if Geoff had awoken from his coma, the Mirror reports.

And a frightened-looking Yasmeen was then charged and told she will face trial.

The Corrie storyline has been praised for its forensic look at coercive control and abuse.

Earlier in the programme, the officer cruelly showed her a photo of Geoff's neck wound after Yasmeen stabbed him with a bottle, and she sobbed.

She did so in self-defence when he came at her with a knife after viewers have seen him abuse Yasmeen for weeks.

But devastated Yasmeen was unable to explain this to the officers, appearing confused about what happened.

She insisted she did not remember the attack and that she thought Geoff was holding a knife, but was unsure now if he even was.

"I’m not excusing what I did, but I saw a knife," she cried.

"I panicked," she added.

"Why did you panic, Yasmeen?" asked the officer, and Yasmeen did not respond, refusing to incriminate her evil husband.

She begged to see Geoff, indicating she has forgiven him for his abuse and, heartbreakingly, just wants to make amends.

The officer informed her that Geoff claimed he had set the knife down on the kitchen counter top - does Yasmeen really not remember, is she just too scared of Geoff, or does she doubt herself?

Yasmeen's granddaughter Alya raged at the police officers for not giving her information under Clare's Law, which allows people to see if their partners have previously been accused of domestic violence.

She pleads with Geoff's daughter-in-law Sally Metcalfe, who seems troubled and as though she does not believe Geoff.

And viewers shared their hope that Yasmeen would eventually be able to get her message across.

Twitter user @RT24Luck said: "Oh, Yasmeen... you need to speak up! You're making yourself look guilty, you can't let Geoff win!"

And @tamlizann said: "I wish #Yasmeen would speak up about what #Geoff is really like."

While user @rcvrngsunset joked: "If yasmeen goes to prison I swear it'll be the final straw for this country."
