ITV Coronation Street's Laura confirms final scenes amid twist as she gushes over on-screen daughter

Fans were left gobsmacked by the end of the latest episode of Coronation Street as Laura Neelan was seen being escorted away in handcuffs. Daughter Kelly Neelan watched on in horror as her dying mother sobbed while being put in the back of a police car, telling her: "I'm so sorry love, I had to do it for your sake. I am so sorry."

An officer revealed Laura was being arrested on suspicion of murdering her estranged husband Rick - Kelly's dad - when she had not long discovered it was Gary Windass who killed him

Earlier in the episode, Laura confronted Gary, who she has been living with for the past couple of weeks, after her private investigator told her that the police believe Rick' is dead and that they think Gary killed him as he was the last person to see him.

Arriving home after failing to access the site where Rick's body is buried and is about to be turned into Weatherfield County's new training centre, Gary faced Laura and ended up revealing the truth, telling her he killed Rick in self-defence after the former loan shark tried to kill him before threatening his then-girlfriend Sarah Platt and her children.

Gary knew his time was up and that Laura was going to go to the police as she wanted Rick's money to be released in order to set Kelly up for a future without her.

The reformed bad boy asked Laura for time to speak to his wife, Maria, and he headed off out their flat door in tears. However, when the couple headed home alongside Kelly to tell her the truth, they saw the police car outside and Laura being brought out in handcuffs.

Next week, Corrie fans will see Laura doing everything she can to convince the police she killed Rick which leads to a court appearance.

"She is very unwell but she drags herself out of bed and is determined to go to court and face the music," Kel Allen, who plays Laura, has said.

"She has perfected her story and she knows she hasn’t got long left, she has nothing to lose."

Kel, who made her first appearance in the ITV soap in April 2020, has already filmed her final scenes. When asked what it was like, she said: "Oh my god, it's emotional. I get emotional and start filling up just thinking about it.

"What a way to go. When they asked me to come back for this final storyline I couldn’t believe it, it was too good to turn down. As an actor to get your teeth stuck into something so heartbreaking, dramatic and even with humour thrown in is just incredible.

"It's been three years in the running and people have been desperate for the truth to come out but I don't think they were expecting that twist. Because of that twist the death scenes when they come are even more emotionally charged."

Kel, who is often sharing behind-the-scenes snaps alongside her on-screen daughter Kelly, played by Millie Gibson, was full of praise for her time in Weatherfield.

"For me it has been an incredible job playing a brilliant character and being part of a storyline that has really engaged the audience," she said. "The biggest thing I have taken from it is the relationships with the people there.

"Milie is incredible, such a talented actor and she is the daughter I never had. I knew Georgia [Taylor - who plays Toyah Battersby] before I joined as we trained together many years ago so it has been brilliant working with her again.

"Also I loved working with Samia [Longchambon], Charlie [De Melo] and Mikey [North], we are like one big family and I feel blessed to be part of that and I will never forget this experience."
