ITV Coronation Street's Ken Barlow to leave the cobbles this week in emotional scenes

Long-running character Ken Barlow will be saying goodbye to the famous cobbles this week.

Soap expert Sharon Marshall appeared on This Morning to shed light on the character's Coronation Street exit, in a storyline that has been building since the show's landmark 10,000 episode last month.

Ken's famous house, 1 Coronation Street, has been on the market with his adopted daughter Tracy and son Peter both putting in offers on the little terraced property .

In an emotional preview of this Friday's episode, Ken wanders around the living room before he says: "Goodbye, 1 Coronation Street."

Ken is set to move to the Still Waters retirement complex with his partner Claudia.

This Morning host Holly Willoughby said she "didn't like it" and said the show won't be the same without Ken living on the street.

Sharon said the retirement village, which offers a cocktail bar, a book club and fencing lessons, "wasn't very Ken".

Actor William Roache has played the much-loved character since the soap began in December 1960.

The 87-year-old will still feature on the show from his retirement village.

*Coronation Street airs on ITV on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm
