ITV Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn rushed to A&E in a Tinkerbell costume

Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn revealed to ITV's  Lorraine Kelly that she was rushed to hospital after she fainted.

The 26-year-old actress who played Sinead Tinker in Corrie, was performing in pantomime when she took ill and woke up in hospital.

It turned out she had been suffering from a virus that she had passed off as a cold, but it ultimately forced her to drop out of her role in Peter Pan in Northwich early.

Speaking on morning chat show Lorriane, she said: "Basically I was feeling a bit under the weather, but I just put it down to a cold and I loved every second of it [the pantomime].

"I felt really spaced out and I fainted and it was very dramatic - there was an ambulance, I don't remember that, I just remember waking up in A&E in my Tinkerbell costume and thinking 'aren't I on [stage] now?'

"The doctor said it was because of exhaustion and being ill because of this virus so I was told to have a few days bed rest.

"But after that I still felt sick so I went to my doctor and they told me I needed one to two weeks of bed rest - I hate having a day off work, so this was really tough for me, I loved the part it [the panto], it was such a light relief, so I was gutted."

It was Katie's first job since she left the cobbles late last year in a heartbreaking storyline which saw her character Sinead die of cancer.

Lorraine congratulated her on her Nation Television Award nomination for best soap actor, saying her performance was "special".

Katie said: "The response I have had is so incredible."

Speaking about her decision to leave the soap, she added: "I felt a bit lost and I had been at Coronation Street for quite a while and they said about this story line, but they didn't know how to end it and I said 'I think it should be a very sad ending' and some soaps, some TV shows, sugar coat it a lot and I just wanted to make it real.

"I learnt so much on the show and I have so many memories, but I do miss every one, it is such a big family."

She also showed off her new toned-up figure, which she said was done through exercise rather than weight loss and diets.
