Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn choked up during her acceptance speech after winning

Katie played Sinead Tinker on the Cobbles covering various major storylines.

The storyline touched the hearts of millions around the country as they watched Sinead say goodbye to her husband Daniel and baby son Bertie.

Tonight, Katie won the award for 'Serial Drama Performance' - but couldn't help get emotional during her acceptance speech.

She said: "I am shocked I even got nominated for this award.

"Thanks everyone who voted for the storyline. Thanks to Corrie and Iain MacLeod.

"People don't understand the background that goes into this - the research, the writing."

She also thanked Rob Mallard who played her on-screen husband Daniel Osbourne, before paying tribute to her Granddad, who passed away prior to Katie getting the gig for Corrie.

However, Katie became emotional when she dedicated the award to cervical cancer patients and survivors.

Choking up, she said: "This award is for anyone who is going through cervical cancer or has had cervical cancer and their families.

"Stay strong."
