ITV Coronation Street's Jennie McAlpine confirms arrival from Phill's past to derail Fiz wedding - and its a familiar soap face

Jennie McAlpine has revealed that a blast from Phill Whittaker's past could derail his and Fiz Stape's upcoming wedding in Coronation Street. But first, the bride-to-be will be facing the return of her future mother-in-law.

It all starts as Fiz gets worked up ahead of a pre-wedding visit from Mimi, played by Margot Leicester, as Hope kicks off about her bridesmaid dress and Fiz worries her veil is frayed. As Fiz asserts that everything needs to be perfect, Hope earwigs from the hallway. Later, much to Evelyn's dismay, Fiz is forced to ask Phill’s mum Mimi to stay when she tells them no hotel will take Coco her dog.

But when Mimi is knocked flying by Cerberus and sustains a sprained hip it is evident that Evelyn and Mimi living under the same roof is going to be a strain for everyone! Then next week, Corrie viewers will see Evelyn convinced Mimi is faking her injury and tells Fiz she thinks she is part of a plan to sabotage the wedding.

"She wasn't very nice last time, was she and then Phill finally stood up to her last time she was here so she's dreading her arriving," Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz, said of her character's feelings during an interview with the Manchester Evening News and other press.

"She [Fiz] thinks she's going to be the same as last time because she was planning Phill's birthday last time and this time it's the wedding which is a million times bigger party for her. She causes chaos basically, that's all I'll say!" And she goes so far as to say that Fiz believes she's here to sabotage her son's impending big day with Fiz.

"She was a bit like that last time so it doesn't surprise Fiz that maybe Mimi is trying to scupper the wedding," Jennie adds. But things are soon going from bad to worse for Fiz. When Hope's bridesmaid dress gets covered in wine and Mimi blames Cerberus, Evelyn sees red and not just wine. A slanging match soon ensues and Phill ends up annoyed with Fiz for not giving Mimi the benefit of the doubt over Evelyn.

Then, on the street, they are both stunned when a beautiful woman steps out of a car and introduces herself to Fiz as Camilla, Phill’s ex-wife. Phill is baffled as to why she has turned up but tells Fiz he can't wait to marry her and Camilla is no threat.

Camilla will be played by Louise Marwood, who previously appeared in fellow ITV soap Emmerdale as Chrissie White. The news of her appearance on the cobbles ewas revealed earlier this month when Louise confirmed rumours she was joining the soap. In a tweet, Louise said: "I am joining @itvcorrie it’s true, but only for a few eps. Hate to disappoint. Fab character though…"

Revealing more about the character and the impact on Fiz, Jennie said: "Deep down [Fiz] is dead fragile since Tyrone did this to her and I think there's an element of, she met this Phill, he asked her out, she thought 'why you asking me out' and then he says he loves her and wants to marry her... all these things [but] somewhere in the back of her head she's thinking, 'This can't be real!"

She adds: "Then when his gorgeous, successful ex-wife shows up she thinks, 'Oh yeah, of course he'll go back to her. He's not going to stay with me!' So she thinks, definitely, that history will repeat itself and she'll be left again."

And with the arrival of an ex and more unfortunate events leading up to the planned wedding, Fiz is left thinking what should be the happiest day of their lives is already 'doomed'. "I think that's back to how she feels about herself. Thinking, 'why did I think I deserve this with his nice house, this man who's lovely to me and this lovely wedding? I should have stuck with the Tyrone who cheated on me.'"

Meanwhile, Tyrone is being spurred in by Kevin Webster and still holding a torch for his ex, the mechanic he decides he needs to tell Fiz how he feels before it is too late. But later, Fiz calls at the garage and tells Tyrone that she loves him but can’t trust him and will be marrying Phill.

What we do know is that Phill, Fiz, and their guest do make it to a fancy wedding venue ready for the nuptials as first-look pictures have shown. But whether the vows are exchanged remains to be seen. But Jennie does believe Fiz is being true to herself. "I think she's sure that this is the right thing for her," she told us.

"I've said a million times if she could go back to the Tyrone that was before Alina it would all be alright but that's not going to happen so this is the future. This is what is right for her and the girls and Phill and Tyrone get on, it could be worse."
