ITV Coronation Street's Harriet Bibby responds to co-star Tony Maudsley over 'nightmare' claims

Harriet Bibby has jokingly hit back at her Coronation Street co-star after he described her as a 'nightmare' off-screen. The actress, who plays Summer Spellman in the ITV soap, got into a playful exchange with Tony Maudsley, who joined the Salford-based cast as George Shuttleworth in 2020.

Harriet, 25, found herself being tagged in a picture on Twitter about a theatre performance she is currently preparing for. The soap star revealed last month that she had bagged a role away from the cobbles. The Wigan-born star landed the role of Summer during the pandemic, making her on-screen debut at the end of the same year.

The role was recast after Matilda Freeman, who was the same age as the character, decided to leave the soap. Summer returned from her grandmother Geraldine's to discover that her former guardian Todd Grimshaw had also returned to Weatherfield after being on the run.

But she's set to stretch her acting wings this month as she'll be playing the role of 'Girl' in 'Blackbird' at Liverpool's Royal Court Studio for four shows.

Resharing a post from Roots theatre which showed Harriet in a snap alongside some of her new castmates, director Nick Bagnall commented: "@TonyMaudsley1 @GarPierce She is alright that @HarrietBibby eh? xxx."

Tony was quick to reply but couldn't resist causing a bit of mischief. He said: "Oh she's a NIGHTMARE! Refuses to come out of her dressing room till they've warmed her slippers and plied her with frothy coffee!!" But Harriet wasn't going to let that slide and joked in response: "Shhhh! I’ve warned you Maudsley!"

He did, however, prove it was a joke by simply responding with a red heart emoji. Gareth Pierce, who stars as Todd Grimshaw in the ITV soap, was also keen to comment. "Learnt from the best, of course!" he said before adding: "Cracking team you’ve got there, Baggers. Have fun - I’ll be over to say hello."

Harriet took to her Instagram Story back in June to reshare a post that announced she'd be playing the role. A quote from Harriet on the post, shared by Roots Theatre, read: "I am so thrilled to be working on Blackbird, especially after having to postpone the show!

"We had our first rehearsal and I could already tell that is was going to be a fantastic play. It's beautifully written and there's a lot to unpack, which is so exciting." Adding her own message, she wrote to her thousands of followers: "So excited for this."

Meanwhile, Tony has got an interesting time coming up on the cobbles as his family on the street expands. That's because it has been announced that George's sister, Glenda, will be arriving in Weatherfield in the shape of theatre star Jodie Prenger.

Following the announcement last month, former Benidorm star Tony couldn't hide his joy. Taking to Twitter and resharing Corrie's announcement. He added: "Can't wait for you all to meet our Glenda. You're gonna LOVE her!!" And fans were also having their say on the casting.
