ITV Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley suffers 'awkward' confrontation with angry gym-goer

Catherine Tyldesley took to social media to share her horror at trying to avoid confrontation as she left her local gym. The former Coronation Street actress had finished her session and wanted to get back home to her family.

She has recently welcomed her second child, a baby girl named Iris Ella, with husband Tom Pitfield. Their first daughter made them a family of four as she joins their first child, Alfie, who was born in 2015.

So it is no surprise that Cath, who played Eva Price in Corrie from 2011 to 2018, wanted to swiftly head home back to her two-month-old daughter. But her plans were almost scuppered by another woman who was leaving the gym at the same time - and wasn't happy with the Salford-born TV star.

The 38-year-old filmed a video from her car following the incident which she shared with her thousands of followers on Instagram. "I'm struggling to come to terms with what's just happened at the gym," she said appearing slightly mortified. "I know you're not supposed to tailgate but on my way out, I'm in a rush and want to get back to my baby."

She went on to explain: "I'm following a car out, she pulls up and stops underneath the barrier and was like, 'I'm not moving, you're not allowed to tailgate.'"

Cath admitted that she started to laugh because she "can't handle confrontation" before commenting: "Who has the energy?" but this only appeared to make matters worse. "She's like, 'You're breaking the rules. I'm not moving,'" the mum-of-two went on.

"I'm like, 'I could do with getting home really, babes'. It just got really awkward! I gave my horn a little friendly beep but she just stayed there!" She added: "I can't come to terms with what's just happened. My nerves are hanging out. One of them people who has got weird things in the cupboard at home, do you know what I mean?"

Trying to speed things along, Cath found herself having the phone the gym's reception. She said: "They were like, 'You alright, Cath?' And I was like, 'No, this woman is just moments away from doing a dirty protest under the barrier because I followed her through'. It got really awkward."

Luckily for Cath, her plan to get help worked with the other woman in question spotting her on the phone and quickly drove off giving the former soap star a clear path to get back home. "Pooped her pants, didn't she. Drove off," Catherine said. "I hope she's alright," she added before a pause and ended her video by saying: "Wow!"

Catherine announced the birth of her baby girl back in April after revealing she was expecting her second child with husband Tom back in October. She then shared the news of their daughter's safe arrival on Instagram, sharing a black and white image of the newborn's tiny legs and feet.

She wrote alongside the adorable photo: "We are so happy to announce that our beautiful daughter has arrived," she said. "We are grateful beyond words and feel overjoyed that our family is complete."
