ITV Coronation Street Harriet Bibby's favourite Liverpool spot

Coronation Street's Harriet Bibby has shared her favourite spot in Liverpool.

The soap star is renowned for her role as Summer Spellman in the ITV show. The 24-year-old spoke to the ECHO at the grand unveiling of the new Weatherfield Precinct earlier this week.

Harriet told the ECHO how she enjoyed a trip to Liverpool the night before the grand opening alongside her co-star, Elle Mulvaney, who plays Amy Barlow. She said: "We went to do some Christmas shopping in Liverpool ONE, but we didn't really buy for anyone other than ourselves so it didn't go really well.

"It's just a bit different because often me and Elle will hang out. We've been into Manchester a lot so we thought we'd try somewhere new. "

Harriet said she enjoys travelling to Merseyside and heaped praise on her favourite spot for a night out. She said: "We didn't go this week, but we love going to Concert Square. It's so fun. It's always a good night out."

Harriet has become a key cast-member on Coronation Street and has the privilege of filming the first scene in Coronation Street's new location. The soap star praised the designers for the work that has gone into achieving the authentic look of the fabled Weatherfield Precinct.

She said: "It looks so good. It looks really real, it looks weathered, it looks lived in which is amazing because it's brand new. You've often heard people say I'm going to go to the precinct so it's nice to open up that world a little bit and see into it."

Harriet's onscreen counterpart has been going through a turbulent period in the soap after she found out she was pregnant. Summer vowed to be a surrogate for Mike and Esther, but has since suffered a miscarriage.

Fans are suspicious of Mike and Esther's true motives and Harriet was keeping her cards close to her chest about what is next to come. She said: "The actors who play Mike and Esther are fantastic to work with and they're not as creepy in real life as they are on screen. But yeah, all I can say is they are in for a ride with them and Summer."

The sensitive subject matter is the latest significant story Summer has been involved in after she was diagnosed with diabetes earlier this year. Harriet has won acclaim for her performances tackling big issues - and revealed she is so "grateful" show bosses continuously trust her with such weighty subject matter.

She said: "It's opened my eyes to stuff as well. Before Summer got diagnosed with diabetes I didn't know that much about it but I think not a lot of people do. People make assumptions about what diabetes means so it's been an education for me and opened my eyes. Hopefully that's read on screen and opened other people's eyes about what that actually means and what signs to look for. It feels incredible I've been trusted with that."

However, Summer is set to enjoy a bit of a break this festive period as Harriet revealed fans can expect a classic Corrie Christmas. She said: "Christmas on the street should be a nice one. That's what Coronation Street is all about. It's seeing different families and how they interact and how they celebrate each other."
