ITV Coronation Street fans spot 'strange' move after Steve's change in appearance sparked mystery

Coronation Street fans have spotted a 'strange' move after Steve McDonald underwent another change in appearance. The ITV soap favourite, played by Simon Gregson, left viewers confused earlier this week when he appeared with a new look.

During Monday night's episode, Steve was seen in the living room of 1 Coronation Street as he sat back with his wife Tracy, played by Kate Ford. Steve and Tracy chatted with daughter Amy as she got ready for pal Nina Lucas' birthday party and in a sweet heart-to-heart they told Amy they were proud of her after her recent rape ordeal with Aaron Sandford.

But some viewers were distracted by Steve as they clocked that he was wearing a baseball cap including @Dee_Cee95x who asked on Twitter: "How different does Steve look in that hat?" And @mikepriestley13 who remarked jokingly about the popular character: "Steve wearing a baseball cap he’s a Poundland version of Eminem in that cap."

However, after all the comments, Steve returned without the new accessory. And it sparked just as many comments from Corrie fans. @corriepodcast tweeted: "Steve’s lost his cap already."

@cb_038 asked: "What's happened to Steve's baseball cap that he was wearing the other night? #Corrie." @clatworthy1973 pleaded: "Can we please start a petition to bring back Steve's cap? #corrie." @Mel_Navan quipped: "#Corrie Y'all happy now. Steves cap is gone." But @StVitusDance added reassuringly: "Steves cap could be back as they dont film sequentially #Corrie."

It comes after Simon appeared to spend some time off-screen. And it may have had something to do with the injury he sustained. In an episode of the ITV soap aired on November 29, the character returned from a trip to Spain. He got sympathy from his pals in the boozer, with the exception of his wife Tracy, as he explained that he had broken his leg while chasing a mugger.

But the real reason behind it all was that actor Simon, in real-life, broke his leg in six places - and it had to be written into his Corrie scenes. He said at the time: "I've broken my leg. I literally just went over and rolled my ankle, outside the back of the house. It was done in six places."

And, appearing on Good Morning Britain last month, Simon gave an update on his injury and explained how it will still be months before he is back to full health. "It hurts, all the time. It's driving me mad," he said. "I think it's just a case of just having to wait quite a while until it's fully better."
