ITV Coronation Street fans say 'iconic' character always 'brightens their days'

Coronation Street fans can always rely on one 'iconic' character to brighten their days.

And tonight's episode of the ITV soap was no different as it opened up with the fantastically comical Mary Taylor, played by Patti Clare, doing her morning yoga exercises. George Shuttleworth, played by scouse Tony Maudsley, looked horrified as he looked on at Mary stretching in a jazzy dressing gown and messy bun, secured by a bright pink scrunchie.

She said to him: "Oh, I do hope you don't find my attire too revealing. It does have a tendency to waft when I bend."

The ditzy character continued to wave her arms around, as George suggested: "Well how about not bending?" But Mary rejected his suggestion as she said: "Well I like to start the morning with my Canadian Air Force toe touches." With that, she reached down to the floor in an impressive stretch.

George gave her a funny look as Mary asked: "Are you alright? You look awful! I feel a bit sick looking at you actually." She laughed, as George sarcastically replied: "Gee, thanks."

Fans on Twitter thought that the scene was hilarious and praised Mary for "brightening their day". Russell said: "Mary brightens up any episode. #Corrie."

Meanwhile, Darren said: "Can always count on a Mary story to brighten your day. #Corrie."

Ryan said: "Mary looks iconic #Corrie." Justin added: "Mary’s pyjamas were cool. #Corrie"

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
