ITV Coronation Street fans praise 'legend' Andy Whyment for drunk topless karaoke video on holiday in Maldives

Coronation Street's Andy Whyment has proved why he's lovable both on and off the screen as he has shared an insight into his holiday in the Maldives. The actor who plays one of the soap's most iconic character's Kirk Sutherland posted a video of himself 'living his best life' with his pals in the tropical holiday spot.

Andy, 41, shared a video of himself and a friend performing Robbie William's hit song 'Angels' on karaoke whilst topless and admittedly 'drunk'. The pair belted out the classic tune in a bar and even treated the audience to some harmonies whilst a guitarist played along.

Despite being one of the soap's biggest stars, Corrie's Andy is known for being relatable, humorous and down to earth which fans saw during his stint on I'm A Celebrity back in 2019, where he came runner-up to Jacqueline Jossa.

Sharing the video with his 399,000 followers on Instagram on Wednesday night (April 13), Andy wrote: "Two drunk 41 year olds me and @davidtaylor2903 living there best lives in the Maldives @sunsiyamvilureef HAPPY HOLIDAYS."

In the clip the actor is barefoot wearing nothing but some blue swimming shorts whilst sporting a bit of sunburn on his chest. He appears to be having the time of his life during his drunken rendition of Robbie's hit from 1997, which is a popular choice of karaoke song.

And Andy's fans and friends couldn't get enough of the video, with many praising him for being so normal and others calling him a 'legend'.

"You're human Andy, that's why we love you!! Carry on & enjoy," commented Lynda.

"Classssss effort mate!! Always up for a laugh, never a dull moment, hope you're having a blast," wrote Ryan.

"Legend!!" and "Brilliant!!" praised others, whilst some commented on Andy's tan: "That a t-shirt tan Andy, keeping up the manc tradition."

Andy from Salford has been a regular on the cobbles since May 2000, but recently it was revealed that his character wasn't originally called Kirk. Kirk's first appearance on the cobbles was actually as a walk-on actor before Andy joined the soap officially in October the same year.

During two decades on screen Andy's character Kirk has been involved in some of the soap's best storylines, most notably for his relationship with Fiz Brown played by Jennie McAlpine. Kirk is the older brother of Maria Connor and is now married to Beth Sutherland, despite her being a bigamist.

Aside from Corrie Andy had minor roles in The Cops, Heartbeat and Where the Heart Is. Before joining the cobbles he appeared as Darren Sinclair-Jones in the BBC sitcom The Royle Family.

Andy also took part in the 2012 series of Dancing on Ice and was paired up with professional skater Vicky Ogden.

In real life Andy married his long-term girlfriend Nichola in 2007 and they have two children, Thomas and Hollie.
