Coronation Street fans were heartbroken tonight, as Rita was trapped under a Christmas tree.
The Corrie legend , played by Barbara Knox was just putting the finishing touches to her tree, when it fell on top of her, crushing her to the floor.
Rita lay silent under the tree, but then she could be heard softly murmuring as she said: "Help, please help."
But with Rita telling everyone she is going away for Christmas, fans feared she could be left under the tree helpless for the entire Christmas period.
Shaun Ely said: "Please someone find Rita."
Lesley Watkins said: "Please let Rita be ok."
Karen said: "Oh no, don't die Rita."
And Alicia said: "Someone go save our Rita."
Earlier in the episode fans saw how Gemma went round to see Rita and told her she'd bought her a Christmas tree from Dev's for her.
Gemma promised to help her decorate it later on, but she had to cancel after having her hands full with the quads.
Dev then came round to help her put up the tree - but it was lopsided, forcing Rita to have to correct it and fall off the step.
