ITV Coronation Street fans heartbroken again over 'most powerful moment' on TV

ITV Coronation Street fans were left feeling emotional after the show re-aired a hard-hitting storyline tonight.

Coronation Street: Stories that Gripped the Nation, charted some of the long-running soap's most iconic moments over its 60 year tenure.

Narrated by comedian Jason Manford, the special episode dived into the archives and covered highlights such as Deirdre 'the Weatherfield One' Barlow's wrongful conviction, to the love triangle between her, Mike and Ken.

But it was revisiting one heartbreaking storyline in particular that had viewers in tears all over again.

Aidan Connor, played by X Factor alum Shane Ward, was the focus of a raw and honest portrayal of mental health struggles in men, culminating in the character's devastating suicide and the effect it had on his loved ones.

Aidan's battle with depression aired over 12 months, with his death broadcast in May 2018.

The storyline proved to be just as stirring today, with viewers taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Ted said: " #coronationstreet still one of the most powerful moments on British tv!!!"

One fan commented: "Bloody hell #CoronationStreet storied that gripped the nation has me [sobbing emoji]".

Another said: "Aiden's suicide storyline was really emotional."

And another said: "Gail's speech made me cry even more when that episode aired."

Shari added: "It’s still every bit as devastating watching again after all this time! Hits you like a punch to the stomach. Such an important story".

Sarah said: "Aiden's storyline still makes me sob to this day. What an important issue to address, done so sensitively and perfectly."

James commented: "Watching #CoronationStreet Stories That Gripped the Nation and it reminded me how sad that Aidan storyline was."

Sonia added: "bloody hell, still makes me cry watching that scene! Has to be one of the most powerful episodes known to man, played out by one of the best to walk the cobbles".
