ITV Coronation Street fans disgusted by Rana's mum's funeral plans

Coronation Street fans were left disgusted by Rana's mum's plans for her funeral following the dramatic factory collapse.

Rana Habeeb, played by Bhavna Limbachia, died after the roof of Underworld fell in last week, leaving her wife-to-be, Kate devastated.

Following her death, her mum Saira, played by Kim Vithana insisted on a Muslim burial and funeral.

While there was some resistance, considering Saira has disowned Rana, Kate talked everyone round and it was agreed.

But there was a further twist from Saira when she told Kate it was best she didn't attend the funeral as people would be cruel because of her and Rana were lesbians.

Rana's brother, Imran, played by Charlie de Melo, tried to persuade his mother, telling her Rana loved Kate more than anyone and should be there.

But she said that people wouldn't understand and would be cruel, whispering and making Kate feel embarrassed.

Fans of the ITV soap were furious that Saira would stop Kate saying goodbye to her partner, with many venting on Twitter.

Who is Wayne Hayes in Coronation Street and who used to play him in the soap?

One said: "I'm disgusted by what I'm watching right now. Rana's mother makes me sick!!! The show just aggravates me."

Another tweeted: "I KNEW Rana's mum would try to ban Kate from the funeral & she can't even be honest that it's not the gossip about Kate it's her who can't stand the thought of any gossip or people knowing her daughter was a lesbian. Kate should be there!"

A third added: "such a shame a death causes arguments in the family when it should be bringing people together in grief."

*Coronation Street is on ITV1, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm
