ITV confirm Love Island 2021 start date and there's not long to wait

I've got a text ... and it's the news you've all been waiting for.

Love Island is making its 2021 comeback and fans will be able to watch new episodes of the reality show on ITV2 and ITV Hub from Monday, June 28.

Holly Willoughby announced the start date on This Morning while interviewing ex-contestant Marcel Somerville.

Holly and Phil also had the chance to show off Love Island's brand spanking new merchandise including a new water bottle, a 4 week suitcase and pink satin robe, styled by Phil.

The villa will be opening up later this month with Love Island regulars Laura Whitmore hosting and husband Iain Stirling narrating.

This year's cast list is yet to be announced but there are already rumours that ex footballer Jay Munro, Dublin's Lucy Plunkett and Alisha Le May will be heading to the villa in Mallorca, according to LiverpoolEcho.

In the past few years, the steamy dating show has come under fire regarding the wellness of cast members after Sophie Gradon from series two and Mike Thalassitis from series three took their own lives.

ITV has now stated that they will offer ‘comprehensive psychological support, training for all Islanders on the impacts of social media and handling potential negativity, training for all Islanders on financial management, detailed conversations with Islanders regarding the impact of participation on the show, an aftercare package which extends support to all islanders following their participation on the show, and guidance and advice on taking on management after the show’.

There will also be registered mental health professionals on hand for islanders from pre-filming, throughout the show and to aftercare.

Prior to filming, islanders will undergo psychological and medical assessments including assessments by an independent doctor, psychological consultant and reports from each islander’s own GP to check medical history.

Potential Islanders are required to fully disclose any medical history that would be relevant to their inclusion in the villa and the production’s ability to provide a suitable environment for them.

A minimum of eight therapy sessions will be offered to each Islander when they return home.

Additionally proactive contact with Islanders for a period of 14 months after the series in which they have appeared has ended, with additional help provided where applicable.

You can catch the new season of Love Island on ITV2 and ITV Hub from June 28 at 9pm.
