ITV climbs on Mediaset bid talk

Away from the budget for a second, broadcaster ITV is up on renewed bid speculation.

Its shares are up 3.5p to 32.25p with Mediaset the name being mentioned by traders, the latest in a long list of potential predators. Mediaset is the Italian commercial television network founded by Silvio Berlusconi, and controlled by his family through Fininvest.

ITV has been widely predicted to be considering a rights issue, with UBS recently suggesting it should act quickly to bolster its balance sheet.

The unknown factor in any ITV bid story is, of course, what will happen with the 17.9% stake held by BSkyB.
