ITV cancels quiz show Lingo in schedule shake up

ITV quiz show Lingo has been cancelled to accommodate the Grand National.

The linguistics game sees three teams go head to head in order to win a cash prize of several thousand pounds. The objective is to guess the hidden word with only the starting letter as a clue, with other letters hopefully opening up as time goes on.

The show's growth in popularity is seen as being down to the hit online game Wordle which has the exact same format. Lingo' s current host is Adil Ray but it has seen several presenters since the show's creation in the 1980s.

With the Grand National festival at Aintree under way from today, ITV is beginning its coverage live from the course. Due to this, Lingo will be taken off the air from today in order to accommodate the event.

Sports broadcasters Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani will be preventing several hours of content today, featuring five races including the 2:55pm Betway Bowl and 3:30pm Aintree Hurdle. The Grand National celebrations take place over several days with the main event taking place on Saturday at 5:15pm.
