ITV buoyed by renewed bid chatter

ITV has added 1.75p to 32.25p as traders heard renewed talk of a possible bid for the broadcaster.

European group RTL, Italy's Mediaset, Saban Entertainment and Big Brother maker Endemol - part owned by Mediaset - have all been linked with ITV in the past.

Any bidder would probably take advantage of the fact that BSkyB has been told by UK competition authorities to sell some or all of its 17.9% stake. But BSkyB bought the stake in 2006 for 135p in a move which effectively blocked a bid for ITV by cable group NTL. Some industry sources have speculated that BSkyB would rather persist with more appeals rather than sell out at a hefty loss.
