ITV Britain's Got Talent viewers recognise dance act from another show during emotional routine

Britain's Got Talent fans never miss a trick and it is no surprise they were quick to point out a recent act's talent show past. The popular ITV programme was back on air on Saturday night (May 14) with Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams, and Simon Cowell ready to see what else the country had to offer in terms of entertainment.

And things were soon getting emotional. The judges, London Palladium audience and viewers watching at home were treated to a performance from the Dane Bates Collective. The troupe took to the stage and their look gave a hint as to what story they'd tell as they dressed in wartime attire.

They said they perform across the UK to "tell stories," however, it was probably more tear-jerking than viewers expected as they revealed that their performance was recreating a letter from the choreographer's great-grandad to his great-grandma which told his wife he had been captured in the war.

"It's a piece of history, something that we need to keep remembering," a member of the group told the judges. "We really want to get this story across," she added as Simon wished them "luck". They then got on with their moving contemporary performance set to a revamped version of U2's With or Without You.

And it is clear the Dane Bates Collective impressed with all four judges on their feet at the end of the performance as applause and cheers rang out through the theatre. Viewers at home were also having their say.

@Racingfan211 tweeted: "The Dane Bates collective were flawless. That’s dancing. Told a complex story and it was captivating, anyone can join a crew of 50 and move their arms to 43 music changes, very few can do that, was almost Matthew Bourne esque #BGT." @Jamie__Lea shared: "The Dane Collective on @BGT absolutely amazing. Had me emotional there! Beautiful piece #bgt."

But many also took to Twitter to point out they had been on BBC show The Greatest Dancer back in 2019. @spycock2 said: "Dance group have been on BBC Greatest Dancer #BGT." @jamie_pragnell echoed: "Oh, weren’t they on BBC’s The Greatest Dancer a couple of years ago? #BGT #BritainsGotTalent."

@Bethhhanyyyy quizzed: "Another professional act? #BGT." @BethHaughian commented: "Dane Bates Collective are making their way on to every talent show possible #BGT."
