ITV Britain's Got Talent fans 'cringe' at children's VE Day song choice

Britain's Got Talent viewers were left cringing over a children's choir's song choice tonight.

The D-Day Juniors, made up of a group of six to 17-year-olds, took to the famous stage to pay homage to our heroes after VE Day.

The children sang a tribute to those who fought and died in the war. The programme was filmed before coronavirus lockdown restrictions came in but scheduled to coincide with the bank holiday.

As they sang, images of soldiers and veterans were shown on the screen behind them.

The audience and judges erupted into applause after they had finished, but viewers were unimpressed.

The song was called Pass It On, which some Britain's Got Talent fans felt was inappropriate in the current climate.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One viewer said: "Not sure that in the middle of a global pandemic those kids should be singing a song called Pass It On."

Kai said: "I mean, #passiton isn’t really the best advice right now, is it?"

Maddie commented: "That 'pass it on' song was ironic."

Simon added: "Pass it on, to everyone. Hilarious."

Other viewers were unimpressed with the performance as a whole.

Terianne said: "I miss the Paul Potts and Susan Boyle days where there was no gimmicks, no emotively charged back story but just a neighbour with a surprising talent."

Another viewer commented: "Dreadful start".

A third said: "Jesus wept that VE Day kids thing on #bgt was pure cringe".

One viewer added: " @BGT sorry, but the #ddaydarlings were tone deaf. I'd have buzzed them off. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent #passiton These acts are 10 a penny".

Matty said: "Had to turn that s**** off! Nice message but it’s not exactly mind blowing talent!"

Karlene said: "The message was lovely..........but the singing hurt my ears".
