ITV Britain's Got Talent crowd boos announcement by hosts Ant and Dec

Things got a little tense during Britain's Got Talent 's third live semi-final, with some boos even filling the ITV studios at one point throughout the evening.

National treasures Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were greeted by a round of boos from the audience following a shock announcement on stage.

The ITV show added another two acts to Sunday's final line-up following Thursday's live semi-final at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams all watched on, alongside a packed crowd, as eight acts to the stage hoping to do enough to make it through to Sunday night's big final.

The live semi-final included the likes of creepy but captivating acrobatic troupe The Freaks and young singer Immi Davis among its acts, but not all would make it through to the final. It was an announcement that left many in shock.

Following The Freaks made it comfortably through to the final alongside The Dots, and Tom Ball and Eva Abley, the audience made their feelings pretty clear when Geordie duo Ant and Dec announced the remaining results.

Confirming that young singer Immi would not be progressing to Sunday’s showstopping grand final, the audience were then heard loudly booing the result.

The judges were just as shocked as the audience.

Simon Cowell looked stunned by the decision, while Amanda Holden was similarly shocked.

They were not the only boos on the night, with some more being heard when it was announced that the Dane Bates Collective was also going home.

Simon, 62, went on tease towards the end of the night that there could be "one or two wild cards" returning for the Britain's Got Talent final on Sunday.

After the three other judges all put teen comedian through to the final, hosts Ant and Dec quizzed Simon about who he would have chosen.

Simon said: "Well, you know what, this was really difficult because I also think Immi should be standing here right now as well.

"So I think we are going to have to bring one or two wild cards. I really mean it."

The schoolgirl from Welwyn Garden City wowed the judging panel with her incredible voice during her rendition of Bishop Briggs' 2018 hit River, so much so that Simon requested the youngster to sing the main chorus acapella.

The other acts who competed in the third semi-final of the week were Les Sancho, The Freaks, Dane Bates Collective and The Dots.

Tom and Eva will join Maxwell Thorpe, Jamie Leahey, Ben Nickless and Golden Buzzer act Flintz and Taylor as they compete to be crowned winner of this year's Britain's Got Talent in the grand final on June 5.

*Britain’s Got Talent continues tonight at 8pm tonight on ITV.
