ITV bosses 'plan This Morning bloodbath' with Phillip Schofield 'not only one' facing axe

Phillip Schofield is reportedly facing the axe on This Morning as ITV are said to be planning a big shakeup for the show.

The 61-year-old presenter has been hosting the ITV daytime show since 2002. However, recent reports of an apparent 'feud' with Holly Willoughby as their friendship is said to have "cooled" have sparked questions if he will continue on the programme.

Phil and Holly, 42, are said to be "barely speaking" following a series of issues including backlash over false queuegate claims and Holly's reported upset after being left "in the dark" over Phillip's brother's sex abuse trial.

Following the reports, Phillip released a statement where he admitted things haven't "been easy" for the pair – which is said to have "blindsided" and "deeply upset" his former TV BFF.

The pair have continued to host This Morning together this week, with many viewers noticing the "awkward" atmosphere between Holly and Phil.

A source recently told the Mirror: "Phil’s position is looking increasingly precarious. Monday is very much D-day, but the same could apply to any day next week. No one is bigger than the brand."

It has since been reported Phillip is facing the axe from the show if his on-screen chemistry with Holly is lost.

But, it has now been claimed the presenter isn't the only one who could be reaching their final days on the ITV programme.

A source told The Sun: "This Morning is preparing for some seismic changes this summer — and Phil is lined up as the first major name for the chop when his contract expires this summer.

"It’s highly unlikely he’ll be back in September."

Meanwhile, the insider added how the show are planning for a "new look This Morning" and many "feel it is time for some fresh blood" on the show.

This Morning boss Martin Frizell, who has been in charge since 2016, is also reportedly facing the end of his time on the show.

A source added: "There is talk behind the scenes of Martin also being knifed as a bit of a fall guy, too — which might save some of the even more senior executives at the broadcaster if things spiral further."

Martin's handling of queuegate and reports of Holly and Phil's row is said to be viewed as "calamitous" by some while junior members of staff are said to have "struggled" with his way of working.

The reported upcoming shake-up is said to be a "top down one" as "no one" is bigger than the show.

It comes after the Mirror revealed Holly has also considered quitting This Morning to "protect herself".

A source revealed: "By removing herself from the situation she could protect herself better."

They also claimed: "Holly is sick of being lied to.

"She feels trapped. She knows she could easily find another job at a different channel, so it’s up to ITV to give her assurances that she’ll be taken care of if she stays put."
