ITV bosses 'hatch plan' to make Joel Dommett the next Dermot O'Leary

ITV bosses are reportedly hatching a plan to turn Joel Dommett into the next Dermot O'Leary.

The comedian is said to have impressed channel execs after placing as runner-up on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and with his presenting jobs on spin-off Extra Camp and comedy quiz show Hey Tracey!

Now, it's reported Joel will host brand new Saturday night talent show The Masked Singer, and that bosses hope the gig will turn him into the next Dermot O'Leary.

The show, which originated in South Korea, will see 12 famous faces sing for a panel of celebrity judges while their identity is concealed by head-to-toe costumes.

A US version of the show, aired earlier this year, pulled in 12 million viewers.

It's reported ITV ordered a version of the show, with it due to begin filming over the next few months.

A source told The Sun : "Joel has impressed head honchos at ITV and they think he is the perfect fit for this zany show.

"They're hoping he can help make this new series a hit, especially after The X Factor and The Voice have failed recently to bring in the big audiences."

Joe has previously spoken about his run of bad luck in broadcasting gigs.

He said: "Everything I do gets cancelled after one series, so that becomes edgy.

"Sky One's Bring The Noise, canelled. Reality Bites, cancelled."

It's said Joe will remain in his hosting job on Extra Camp when I'm A Celeb returns later this year.

His co-hosts Joe Swash and Scarlett Moffatt have both announced they've quit the show.

The news presenters joining Joel are yet to be announced.
