ITV boss who cancelled Piers Morgan admits controversial presenter is 'irreplaceable'

Piers Morgan is "irreplaceable" and ITV has its work cut out to keep hold of viewers, says the TV network's own chief.

Kevin Lygo, ITV's Director of Television, has admitted there isn't a single person in the showbiz world who can replace the outspoken presenter.

Mr Morgan parted ways from Good Morning Britain last month hours after he had stormed off set in the middle of a live show, reports the Mirror.

The one-time national newspaper editor was reacting after being confronted by weatherman Alex Beresford over a seething rant he launched against Meghan Markle.

Mr Lygo has now lifted the lid on how ITV plan to plug the gaping hole Piers has left and keep viewers hooked for the future.

It has begun rotating fan favourite presenters including Ben Shephard, Susanna Reid, Charlotte Hawkins and Kate Garraway in a bid to keep fans at home happy.

Mr Lygo told Deadline: “Piers is a special thing. You can’t replace somebody like him. There is nobody like Piers, for good or bad.

“We have a roster of presenters, including Ben Shephard, Susanna Reid, Charlotte Hawkins, and Kate Garraway.

"They’re all stepping up and doing a few more days than they would have done. We’ll mix and match until we feel what the right thing is to do. There isn’t a single person who can replace him.”

There was no bad blood between the pair as Mr Lygo admitted himself he hates falling out with people.

In fact, the ITV boss was surprised the presenter had stayed for so long at GMB and jested they had a "good run".
