ITV apologise for Jonathan Ross' shocking Natalie Cole error on The Masked singer

ITV have released a statement after Jonathan Ross' shocking error on the latest episode of The Masked Singer let viewers at home absolutely appalled

The crazy new show continued at the weekend, with all of the remaining disguised celebrities in action, in front of the panel in the studio, including Davina McCall, Rita Ora and famous TV host Jonathan.

One of the acts in action was Daisy, who performed a cover of Nat King Cole's Unforgettable. She was later revealed to be Kelis but, after her performance, host Joel Dommett handed over to the panel for their guesses on who she could be and it was then that Jonathan made the shocking and tragic blunder, when he said "Natalie Cole. His (Nat King Cole's) daughter who did a number of duets which were sung with him."

What Jonathan mustn't have realised is that Natalie Cole died four years ago, something viewers at home quickly picked up on them, with them also taken aback that show bosses allowed her face to be put up on a graphic.

Reacting immediately, one tweeted "The Masked Singer tonight made me cringe when they were guessing Daisy and Jonathan Ross suggested it could be Natalie Cole and Davina and the others were considering it. Natalie died on New Years Eve 2015. These people are professionals and Ross is a DJ. Disgraceful!"

Piers Morgan also waded in on the scandal, tweeting "It’s probably not Natalie Cole, given she’s been dead for 4 years."

And now ITV have broken their silence on the matter, just as

The statement read "This was a genuine mistake by the panel. We apologise if this caused any upset to viewers."
